“Vince”, aged 7, lives in one of the more deprived areas of Kirkcaldy. The space around his house is not safe for playing as discarded syringes and needles are sometimes found lying around. He does not have a garden, only an area of tarmac behind his house. Vince spends a lot of time playing his computer games as a means of escape from his surroundings.
Vince was given the opportunity to visit The Ecology Centre. Whilst on the site at Kinghorn Loch he played games that helped him to:-
- hear the birds singing
- smell the fresh herbs in the sensory garden
- discover the hundreds of insects that live under the logs
- hold some frogspawn in his hand for the first time.
Vince was amazed by all the things that he saw, heard and touched. He now knows why it is important to create wildlife gardens and why we should not just drop our litter.
By giving just £5 to The Ecology Centre you can help a child to experience the natural world for the first time. By setting up a standing order and giving £5 a month you can help 12 children a year. By donating £130 you can help a class of children realise the importance of our planet.
