The Ecology Centre, located at Kinghorn Loch has re-launched its successful garden therapy initiative ‘Naturally Making a Difference’ Project and is inviting local people to take part.
The project is open to people over 16 with a variety of disabilities and offers supported training with a view to improving the employability prospects of participants. The project will focus on developing practical skills in gardening as well as building confidence, friendships and team work. Each participant will have their own development plan to ensure that they get the most out of the experience.
The Ecology Centre is also looking for volunteers to assist the garden therapy supervisor to work in small groups with the participants. All necessary training and guidance will be given.
The work that participants and volunteers can expect to be involved in mainly takes place outdoors in the beautiful and peaceful grounds of The Ecology Centre. The focus is on growing wild flowers, herbs, sensory plants, native trees and assisting in the production of fruit and vegetables in outdoor raised beds and in specially designed polytunnels.
The maximum commitment is one day per week between 10:00 – 15:00, on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Times can be negotiated to suit the individual. The minimum timescale is normally three months.
Applications and referrals are invited from individuals, carers, healthcare professionals and care organisations.
